ASSIEM’ (Montemurro, 22-25 agosto 2024)

Assiem’ è un progetto artistico ideato per Montemurro e realizzato all’interno della residenza artistica che annualmente la Scuola del Graffito Polistrato organizza nel piccolo centro lucano.
Assiem’ si compone di due fasi, la questua dei cucchiai e la realizzazione dell’opera finale.
Il 22 agosto, con il musicista Sergio Santalucia che suonava la ciaramella e invitava le persone ad uscire dalle case, e l’artista Anna Faraone che documentava con la fotocamera la performance, ho raccolto i cucchiai che gli abitanti di Montemurro mi hanno donato per realizzare l’opera finale.
Il cucchiaio è il primo strumento con cui siamo stati nutriti, è concavo, porge il cibo alla bocca con dolcezza, si usa per mescolare le zuppe e le pietanze liquide che, come è noto, sono preparate dalle donne allo stesso tempo padrone della cucina e della casa. È per questo che sono state prevalentemente le donne ad apparire sull’uscio richiamate dal suono della ciaramella di Sergio.
Una volta ricevuto il cucchiaio, ho applicato un cartellino con il nome del donatore e ho realizzato un ritratto fotografico di ogni donatore/donatrice. Successivamente ho fotografo ciascun cucchiaio affiancandolo a una pianta da giardino. Da questa documentazione nasceranno nuove opere.
La questua dei cucchiai si è prolungata il 23 agosto. Quindi il 24 agosto mi sono recato a Moliterno dal fabbro Raimondo Somma che su mia indicazione ha saldato i cucchiai in una cornice circolare, così come avevo progettato.
La sera del 25 agosto, l’opera ASSIEM’, nella quale i donatori perdevano la loro individualità ed entravano in connessione con gli altri per diventare una rete con diramazioni esterne a Montemurro, ma in ogni caso ad esso appartenenti.
Il titolo dell’opera, ASSIEM’, nasce dall’uso dell’espressione “amm’ mai mangiat’ assiem’?” che sta ad indicare la relazione di intimità che si crea quando persone condividono il cibo. ASSIEM’ È il risultato di una commensalità immaginata e simbolica.

Assiem’ is an artistic project conceived for Montemurro and carried out within the artistic residency annually organized by the Polistrato Graffito School in the small Lucanian town.
Assiem’ consists of two phases, the collection of the spoons and the creation of the final work.
On August 22nd, with the musician Sergio Santalucia playing the ciaramella and inviting people to come out of their homes, and the artist Anna Faraone who documented the performance with the camera, I collected the spoons that people donated to me to create the final work.
The spoon is the first instrument with which we were nourished, it collects the food in its concave part, it offers food to the mouth with sweetness, it is used to mix soups and liquid dishes which, as is known, are prepared by women who are at the same time mistresses of kitchen and home. This is why it was mainly women who appeared at the door, attracted by the sound of Sergio’s shawm.
Once I received the spoon, I attached a tag with the donor’s name and created a photographic portrait of each donor. I then photographed each spoon alongside a garden plant.
The collection of spoons continued on August 23rd. So on August 24th I went to Moliterno to the blacksmith Raimondo Somma who, following my instructions, welded the spoons into a circular frame, just as I had planned.
In the work ASSIEM’ the donors lost their individuality and entered into connection with others to become a network with branches external to Montemurro, but in any case belonging to it.
The title of the work, ASSIEM’, comes from the use of the expression “amm’ mai Mangiat’ assiem’?” (have we ever eaten together?) which indicates the intimate relationship that is created when people share food. ASSIEM’ It is the result of an imagined and symbolic commensality.
The work was presented in the Sala San Domenico on the evening of 25 August 2024.
